Structured Literacy

Structured Literacy refers to a way of learning letters and their sounds. It extends from new entrant learners to our senior learners, to reflect the growing complexity of the English Language.
The teaching follows a set sequence, which progresses with the learner. It applies to both reading and writing, and focuses on:
phonological awareness (hearing and making sounds), word recognition (sight or heart words), phonics and decoding (making sounds for written words), spelling.
